Barbados Diary (Day 22): Saying goodbye to Barbados

Last day in Barbados! Packing rum, one last swim and heading home via London. Read how my plan to escape Christmas to the Caribbean went.

Last year I decided that I will miss Advent in Prague. and I'll go out into the heat. No frosts, no stress, just disappear for three whole weeks and not come back until Christmas Eve. I combined business with pleasure and set off for a language course in Barbados. How did I spend these three weeks?

From rum packaging to Christmas Prague

My last day in Barbados started like every day at six in the morning and I must admit that I didn't want to get out of bed at all. I got the last breakfast and then all that was left for me was packaging. That was a regular puzzle, because I'm taking home a lot more stuff than I originally brought here.

I had to be careful to wrap every bottle of rum and with a heavy heart to throw away a few small things that simply didn't fit in the suitcase anymore. Honestly, it was a fight for every square centimeter.

Last swim and trip to the airport

Besides packing, I also managed to go to the beach. I still had a few hours before departure, so I decided to last visit to the beach. Over the past three weeks, I've grown incredibly fond of this place and saying goodbye to the warm sand was really hard.

After a quick shower, Kaya loaded me into the car and took her to the airport. We talked the whole way and I really didn't want to go into the European winter because this vacation in paradise was absolutely flawless.

As soon as I got on the plane, there was a eight-hour flight to London. The journey was peaceful and in the morning I woke up in the British capital, where a completely different climate awaited me than in the Caribbean.

Short stop in London

I deliberately took the time to take a quick tour of the city to soak up some of the Christmas atmosphere. I wanted to see the Christmas tree and the monuments, but since it was early in the morning, the lights were unfortunately off.

On the other hand, I was so tired that I could have easily skipped this trip and booked an earlier flight. It was a good try, but after a night on the plane, my body was clearly saying it wanted to be home in bed.

Home at Last: A Summary of My Journey

When I got back to the airport, I went to the lounge for two coffees and a drink and watched the planes take off. The flight to Prague was just a quick one and that officially ended my December adventure.

I took a lot with me...

  • Improving English: Three weeks of intensive speaking had taken its toll.

  • Escape from stress: I completely skipped the Christmas rush and enjoyed the summer.

  • Clear head: Nothing recharges your batteries like December in Barbados.

My Christmas trip around the island it came out on top. Everything I planned worked out, and now Christmas can begin peacefully at our house. Happy and cheerful!
