Barbados Diary (Day 19): Relaxing on the Platinum Coast and a Beach Guide

Discover 80+ beaches in Barbados! Today we're relaxing at Paynes Bay on the Platinum Coast. Find tips on the best places to swim and snorkel in the Caribbean in the diary.

Last year I decided that I will miss Advent in Prague. and I'll go out into the heat. No frosts, no stress, just disappear for three whole weeks and not come back until Christmas Eve. I combined business with pleasure and set off for a language course in Barbados. How did I spend these three weeks?

Platinum Coast

On my nineteenth day in Barbados, I am completely exhausted after school. confidently jumped on the bus and set out to explore the western side of the island. My goal today was Paynes Bay Beach, which is one of the most beautiful places in the whole "„Platinum Coast“.

The main plan was to just lie in the sand for the whole afternoon and get a good tan. After all, my time here is running out and I want it to be clear at first glance back home in the Czech Republic that I thoroughly enjoyed the Caribbean.

Besides being Paynes Bay incredibly photogenic, she is famous and absolutely calm surface without waves. Once you step into the water, it feels like you're in a giant azure pool, which is a nice change from the wild east coast.

Where to meet sea turtles?

Interestingly, this beach is one of the best places on the island for sea turtle watching. They often stay close to the shore, where they are fed by the crews of excursion catamarans, so all you need is goggles and a snorkel.

On the other hand, I didn't see any turtles today, but I didn't mind at all. I just bobbed in the waves and enjoyed the peace. My experiences Today's are exactly about the tranquility that belongs to a tropical paradise.

Beach Guide: 80 Shades of Blue

You know that in Barbados there is more than 80 beaches with white sand? Each has its own character and each is suitable for something different. Here is a small overview of what you can't miss on your vacation:

  • West Coast (Platinum): Luxury, calm sea and turquoise water. In addition to Paynes Bay, this includes Sandy Lane or Mullins Beach.

  • South coast: A mix of calmer bays and places with more wind. Here you will find Miami Beach, which I have by my house, or the famous Accra Beach.

  • East Coast: Wild Atlantic. Not for swimming, but for surfing (Soup Bowl area) and breathtaking views.

  • North Coast: Rugged coral reefs and sea caves like Animal Flower Cave.

At the same time, it is great that according to local laws, absolutely all the beaches on Barbados public. Even if the world's richest celebrity builds a luxury hotel there, they have to leave access to the sea open for everyone. Often, however, it's only through a narrow alley, so you sometimes have to search for the entrance to the beach.

The longest and most colorful beaches

Once you start touring the island, you'll come across specialties like Crane Beach in the southeast. It's often ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world, and its sand has a slight pinkish tinge thanks to crushed coral.

If you are looking for a place to run or take a long walk, then Brownes Beach near Bridgetown is a clear choice. It is one of the longest beaches and, thanks to its gentle entrance into the water, is ideal for families. But for me, today's winner is Paynes Bay, where I spent perfect afternoon.
