Last year I decided that I will miss Advent in Prague. and I'll go out into the heat. No frosts, no stress, just disappear for three whole weeks and not come back until Christmas Eve. I combined business with pleasure and set off for a language course in Barbados. How did I spend these three weeks?
The rugged north of the island
Barbados and my big trip are coming to an end, but I still had to explore before I left. the rugged northern tip of the island. Everything comes to an end, so I decided to dedicate my last Saturday to a place that is the complete opposite of the quiet beaches in the south.
In the morning I jumped on a bus that took me almost all over the island for 3.50 Barbadian dollars. The journey took a little over an hour and after a short walk I had a view of North Point. It is a place where it is fully manifested the power of the Atlantic.
In addition, the local coral reefs are up to twenty meters high and forms a dramatic wall against the waves. You basically walk here after a petrified coral reef, which is hundreds of thousands of years old. It's a fascinating look at the raw face the Caribbean has hidden for the brave.
Mysterious Animal Flower Cave and wild cliffs
The main attraction of the north is Animal Flower Cave, the only accessible sea cave on the island, discovered already in 1780. Its name comes from the tiny sea anemones that look like colorful flowers and live in cave pools.
As you look up at the cliff walls, you'll see giant natural openings that act as picture frames. Through them, you can watch the crashing waves from inside the rock. Even though I didn't go inside this time, the view from the outside alone was worth every minute of the journey.
What you might not know about Animal Flower Cave:
Natural pools: Inside there are lakes with crystal clear water, where you can swim when the sea is calm.
Coral floor: The cave has a unique bottom made of coral, which is a geological rarity.
Movie backdrops: Thanks to its photogenic nature, various commercials and music videos were filmed here.
Then I just went for the bus. The first one that came was going to Speighstown, so I took it. I didn't want to risk waiting in the sun for another hour for the next one.
I had some time in Speighstown for a quick tour church and pier, before I took a train to Bridgetown. Here I still managed to walk through the city center, which was full of various stalls and energy, just the way I like it on vacation.
Last sunset
The afternoon wasn't over yet, so I hit the beach on my way home. My first beach on the island was Miami Beach in Oistins, so I wanted it to be my very last. I just love it.
So I stayed in Miami Beach until full sunset. I have to admit, I was a little moved. Watching the sun disappear over the horizon for the last time on this trip was the best dot behind all my experiences.
