Last year I decided that I will miss Advent in Prague. and I'll go out into the heat. No frosts, no stress, just disappear for three whole weeks and not come back until Christmas Eve. I combined business with pleasure and set off for a language course in Barbados. How did I spend these three weeks?
How to master the buses and find the best beach
The fifth day on the island of Barbados flew by and my vacation in the Caribbean has taken on a new dimension thanks to the local traffic research. I didn't have any big plans today, but it turned out to be A great day full of sun and experiences.
I spent the morning at school, as usual, practicing my English. As soon as the bell rang, I went for a quick lunch for three hundred. Burgers and fries are not exactly a local specialty, but I was just more hungry.
Right after the meal he set off in the direction Bridgetown city center, to clarify how I will get from here to my planned trip to the distillery on Saturday. Traveling around Barbados sometimes it's a little, actually more like a complete alchemy.
Terminals in Bridgetown and how to navigate them
In the capital you will find it right away three main bus stations. If you're going here, remember that each serves a different direction. It's quite logical once you know where to look.
Three gates to the entire island:
Fairchild Street Terminal: From here, big blue buses run south and southeast (for example to Oistins).
Princess Alice Terminal: Here you will find connections to the west coast towards Holetown and Speightstown.
Constitution River Terminal: This terminal is mainly used for smaller vans and minibuses to the interior.
Besides, it's good to know that you'll meet here three types of transport. Big blue state buses, yellow "reggae" minibuses with loud music playing, and white vans called Z-vans. I've already found my connection for Saturday, so I'm feeling a little more relaxed.
Relaxing at Bayshore and Pebbles Beach
On the way from the bus terminal I stopped at the supermarket for some water and a few packets of chips. They don't sell the classic big ones like here, but small packages, more like this snack. Actually, I couldn't find much other than chips for such a small snack in supermarkets.
My next steps led around National Hero Square and Parliament right on the beach on the coast. It's a short distance and it's really long. I walked past the pier, hundreds of sun loungers all the way to Pebbles Beach.
The truth is that the beaches Bayshore and Pebbles Beach are the best for me so far. They stretch for over a kilometer and offer beautiful white sand and calm water. Finally, after two days it didn't rain once, so I decided to go for it. enjoyed the sunshine to the fullest.
Adrenaline ride in a full van
The journey home in the evening was a chapter in itself. I hailed a shared taxi (Z-van) which was so packed that we were literally body to body.
As more people approached, the guy collecting money almost hit me. ended up on his lap. But that's just part of the fun. At home, a great dinner from my host family and well-deserved peace awaited me.
Now I'm just relaxing, looking at the huge moon and listening endless concert of local frogs, which scream all night long. Every day here is simply an unforgettable experience.
